Went to see my primary care physician for my semi annual check up. We were talking about a few things that were bothering me, when the conversation turned to the operation to remove my basal cell carcinoma, and she [my PCP] commented that I have nice looking skin, and to be sure to use sun screen to protect it.
WOW! No one had ever said that to me before. I'd never even given any thought to the condition of my skin, let alone think of it as good looking. Not exactly sure how I responded, but I do remember commenting that using sun screen could hamper my ability to absorb Vitamin D. She sort of laughed, and tried to convince me some Vitamin D would still get through. I wasn't confident enough to argue, so I just left it at that.
But it was shortly after that, when I was talking about cycling and bikes with the EKG tech, who had just performed an EKG on me (I complained to my PCP about some chest pain when exercising), that I got my biggest surprise. The receptionist at the desk, who wasn't there when I first arrived, made the same comment about having such nice looking skin. She even asked if I put oil on it to keep it so good looking.
Twice in one day! A double WOW! My only thought was to say she was the second person to make that comment today, and no, I didn't do anything special except spend a lot of time in the sun.
Maybe it was my shave cream, I did shave before going for my appointment this morning, or it was some elaborate plot by personnel at the VA to make me feel good, but whatever the case, it did make my day.
Now if only I could just get a few more [thousand] days like this, I might actually be a happy camper. :)
