Isn't it enough?

Isn't it enough my wife and I are both dying of incurable diseases? Isn't it enough I have to put up with the constant vilification of so many people, by so many other people in this country, who think they know it all? Isn't it enough weather extremes (whatever the cause) are creating havoc and misery in many places [even southern California]. Isn't it enough that in the past 3 months, 2 long time neighbors across the street decided to move, and rent out their houses, and the young couple 2 houses north of ours had to default on their mortgage and moved to New Mexico (the house is still empty), and now I just learned our next door neighbors have sold their home and are moving out as well, even as I write this post.

When can I just throw up my arms, and say enough is enough!

After living in the same house, in the same neighborhood for 26 years, with very few upheavals during that time, and when I finally getting to the point where both Edie and I are retired, and totally content with the way things are (despite all the vilification occurring in the rest of the country and within our government), my whole world [the neighborhood where we live] is being turned upside down.

So is this an omen of sorts? Is it telling Edie and I we need to move as well? Our neighbors across the street and next door were all retired as well.

So far the neighbors that have moved in across the street, seem quiet (I haven't bothered to meet either of them yet), but they're only renting, so I would expect them to be fairly transient, and who knows who'll move in next door. Will the people who purchased the house move into it, or will they rent it out also?

As always, only time will tell what changes will come about, but I can't imagine anything better coming of them. Things were already pretty good. I think the best we can hope for is they don't get any worse!

Marc & Edie: I don't know what to say except that Dee Dee and I understand. We have not met except through the Internet and this writing and reading blogs thing. But that is not all that we have in common:

As you know, I am also an MCL survivor, but a different (aggressive) type that required a stem cell transplant in 2007 to save my life. Also, Dee Dee and I retired two years ago as a consequence of my health and treatment for cancer. And you should know that the retirement led to the sale of our former home, then a transient status for awhile. But in October, we purchased our retirement place in Corona on a golf course.

Not that anything is perfect, we are grateful to be in the new place and in the new location. To be at this stage of our care at City of Hope, to have remission and to have the primary vocational days behind us at ages 63 and 64. Gratitude for these things fills our cup daily. And that is something to blog about.

Thanks for the words of inspiration. it's hard to believe it's been over 4 years since your transplant. Glad to know things are going good for you.

It's hard to imagine ever moving from our current home. It's certainly bigger than we need, but like I said we're comfortable there.

I know things do change, but it doesn't mean I have to like. I just have to accept it. (Isn't that the final stage of cancer or something.) Anywaze, I will get over it [eventually], I usually do, but at that moment I just felt the need to rant.

Oh, and hope you're getting to play a lot of golf!

Well Uncle Marc, I got my computer back so I'm going through my old email. As you may or may not know, my neighbor died in November and the house is on the market. I am going crazy with all of the people going through there. I look at each family and think, "Oh no - not that whiny woman who is so loud!!", or "Oh no - please don't let that family with the wild boy who runs around yelling and knocking things over buy it. Seriously, is he out there playing in the garbage cans or something...".

So I totally get what you mean about the neighbors moving. The solution would be if you and Aunt Edie were to buy it!!

I am starting to use the F word loudly and telling Hunter to crack me open a Bud Lite hoping to scare them off. I figure since the outside of the house is such a mess, maybe we should act like trailer trash and they'll avoid it here.

This isn't fun.

But I do hope you're both feeling well!

Jeez, how long were you without a computer? I wrote this post almost 2 months ago.

As it turned out, so far no complaints. Everyone seems very nice, although I've only met the wife next door.

So we're not ready to move yet.

The green tea phenomenon

Despite being a heavy drinker of green tea since my diagnosis, mainly for its cancer prevention, and hopefully cancer curing qualities, I recently have developed a new found enthusiasm for green tea. Now whether it has been the green tea I have been drinking for the past 6+ years, my heavy exercise routine, or just pure chance that has kept my MCL stable, or at least [very] slow progressing, for the past 7+ years is certainly open to debate, but based on past research, I have chosen to believe green tea has at least helped to some degree. So what has given me this new found enthusiasm? Well, a friend of mine, and cycling buddy, was recently diagnosed with bladder cancer, and knowing my daily regimen called to ask my advice on green tea. He had already done a lot of research on the subject, so when I told him my obsession with green tea consisted principally of drinking the least expensive, decaffeinated green tea available (Trader Joe's brand of 18 tea bags for $3, and more recentl...

Alternative treatment blowback

I received some interesting criticism the other day for my stance on alternative therapies. I ......... cannot for the life of me understand why you would not use supplementation and then use an over the counter poisonous liquid which has proven liver toxicity. Especially while taking a statin. She was referring to the use of an over the counter cough medication, I have been taking to help ease the symptoms of my upper respiratory infection. I did this once and vow to never use it again! I have gotten off Lipitor by using Nicotinic Acid and getting much better results but still use COQ10 to protect Liver as you must do while taking Statins. If you are not using CoQ10, I urge you to research this issue. MCL reduces your D3 and should be taken everyday! I use 5000mgs a day. I was sorta taken aback. She was partially correct. I'm against taking supplements, but when necessary I don't have a problem taking over the counter medication, when my ailments finally get the better of me. ...

When is enough, enough?

Today I learned, Lance Armstrong, the most drug tested athlete in the history of sport, is being accused of doping, again . This time by the US Anti Doping Agency (USADA), who claim they have collected blood samples from him in 2009 and 2010 that were “fully consistent with blood manipulation including EPO use and/or blood transfusions.” Really! What took them so long? The French have been trying to make allegations of drug doping stick for years, ever since he won his first Tour d'France, but to no avail. And now the USADA claims to have evidence to support that claim, and they've waited almost 3 years before releasing this evidence. Needless to say, I am skeptical. Then there's this from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO): Increasing the federal excise tax on cigarettes by 50 cents per pack eventually would increase Medicare and Social Security spending, slightly. Eventually? What is the CBO suggesting here? That we should encourage smoking, because if we don't, in...
