I've been defriended! :(

This morning I discovered I had been de-friended by one of my friends on Facebook. It appears a comment I made on a recent post of his did not go over as intended. I only meant it in jest, but obviously he didn't see it that way.

This isn't the first time I've pissed off a friend with something I've said, but it is the first time the action was met with such finality. I even feel bad about it. I just hope I can avoid dwelling on it beyond this post.

Still, I can't help but think his actions are related to the polarization that has overcome this country, creating an environment where we are intolerant of anyone who doesn't share our views, while pitting everyone in the country against each other, and creating an environment of divisiveness and distrust.

Oh well, as the French say, c'est la vie!

Sooner or later every social media follower will be unfriended multiple times because the word "friend" is really a misnomer in the context of internet communications. Blogs and social media sites are a public version of "private" publishing, hence readers will come and go at will. Nothing wrong with that. It is just part of the give and take paradigm of writing and publishing. Marc, never give up on expressing what you believe and experience.

Uncle Marc, you have always had a cutting sarcasm (which I find to be hilarious) and sometimes that doesn't come across very well in a typed comment field. I have had the same problem.If they were REAL Friends, they would've called you.

Hell, half my in-laws defriended me when they found out I was an Atheist and it wasn't anything I said to them directly. It was "discovered on FB" and OMG! I'm suddenly in a category where Hitler and Osama Bin Laden rate higher.

I agree with Mike, never give up on expressing your true thoughts or opinions.

If they can't take a joke or handle your true self, fuck 'em. A wise man once told me Lifes too short to worry about "something or other". Who was that man? :-)

My concerns reaffirmed today

When I was first diagnosed with MCL, I pretty much read just about everything I could get my hands on, I attended various conferences, and I talked to anyone who would listen. One of the most important lessons I learned, and which I've mentioned numerous times before was No one cares more about you than you. But in addition to that, I learned to fear the drug Doxorubicin , AKA Adriamycin, Doxil, Hydroxydoxorubicin, or more affectionately the Red Devil. Besides being a deadly chemical, as is the case with most chemotherapy drugs, it is one of the few chemotherapy drugs known to cause permanent heart damage. I even heard Dr. Sandra Horning , a noted Stanford lymphoma specialist, state at the first lymphoma conference I attended in LA, there was no evidence Doxorubicin provided any added benefit to chemotherapy protocols. Stop the stupidity!

Rural medical center (in Georgia) suspended from vaccination program after inoculating school district staff. Give me a break! Trying to get kids back to school, while protecting teachers, bus drivers and other staff, is exactly what school districts should be doing. If they have vaccines, give them out. We should be giving out vaccines to all who want them, whenever available. Trying to adhere to rigid guidelines will only result in fewer people getting vaccines, resulting in the discarding of precious vaccines, and less protection for everyone. Of course we should be giving first priority to healthcare workers, and any other essential public service employees, such as policeman, fireman, etc. first, but when they're not around to receive shots, or refuse shots, then give them to anyone willing to take them.
