$1,000 worth of wine

Ok, so it was only just over $900 worth of wine (that just didn't sound as dramatic). Still that's a lot of wine! Even if some of them are a little on the pricey side.

And that's on top of spending close to $800 for groceries this month, which believe it or not has been about average for us so far this year. Is it even possible for two people to eat $700+ worth of food in a month? No wonder there's no room in the refrigerator [or freezer], and I never seem to be able to find what I'm looking for. (I just found a bag of flour tortillas this morning with a January 19th sell by date.)

So is that what happens when you stop working? You spend too much time shopping, and you lose all track of money as well as time. [Or is this what inflation looks like?]

I'm not going to make my 20 year plan if I keep this pace up. Of course maybe I won't have to. :)

[note]On a positive note, we have managed to reduce our gasoline expenses by about $50 a month. I likely would have seen a much greater savings had gasoline prices not shot up so much since I stopped working. [/note]

I am having a hard time conceiving how two people can eat $800 worth of groceries a month. I eat very well and spend between $200 & $225 a month. My grandaughter feeds a family of 5 on $120 a week. You must be eating filets, foie gras, lobster etc to have a monthy food bill that high.

Yeah, tell me about it. Edie even just went shopping at Trader Joe's, which is going to drive that number even higher.

And yes, we do like our filets, but no foie gras, and I can't remember the last time I had lobster.

We spend $200 a week and that barely covers it.....family of 4.

That includes detergent, paper towels etc.....

I did check into this a little further, and like you that number does include detergent, paper towels etc. I'm going to try and separate those items out, and come up with a better number.

Still, the two us spend as much as the four of you. It just doesn't seem logical.

Not really that illogical, it doesn't take that much more to feed 2 children....we are already buying enough for 2 adults and a little more is very reasonable.

Lauren also makes a little extra so that we can take it the next day in our lunches...
