Ok, I did my part for the economy

hondacrvI went and bought Edie a new car.

Yes, contrary to my previously spoken intent of never buying another car, unless I really needed one, and especially never buying a new car, I went ahead and bought one anyways.

Edie's 2000 Honda Accord was in need of a $1500 to $2000 transmission overhaul, and I just couldn't justify spending that much on a 9 year old car, so I broke down and took her looking for a new car.

What was so surprising was the almost hassle free experience.  Every dealer we went to was very low key, and never once tried to pressure us into buying a car. [I have to admit it was far different from past experiences, which were instrumental in my adopting the philosphy of never buying another car.]

So after about a week of looking, and one day of driving perspective cars, we settled on a new 2008 Honda CR-V. I know I paid more than I should have, but [I rationalize here] the experience was so painless, and I would have spent a lot more money on a car, had Edie wanted it, plus the guys at the dealership no doubt needed the money more than Edie and me, so I broke down and took their second offer.

It was still a good deal, I just think I could have gotten a little more for the Accord, but considering it needed a transmission overhaul, I didn't want to push it, and I didn't want to sell it on my own. My only regret is I didn't insist on the cross bars for the roof rack, not that I would ever use them, but I did like the way they looked.

Anyways, Edie liked it, as did I (it's perfect for easily hauling the bike), so I'm happy, and I can always buy the cross bars at a later date.

History IS repeating itself

I didn't grow up during the rise and fall of Hitler and Nazi Germany, so for me to claim it feels like those are the times we are living in now, must be taken with a grain of salt. But I have seen enough movies, and read enough history to know, if the times we're living in now are not akin to the rise of a Nazism and Facism in Europe in the 1930's and 1940's, then we're not far off. If you can't see the parallels with Nazi Germany, then you must be living in a different country than me. Stop the stupidity!

Rural medical center (in Georgia) suspended from vaccination program after inoculating school district staff. Give me a break! Trying to get kids back to school, while protecting teachers, bus drivers and other staff, is exactly what school districts should be doing. If they have vaccines, give them out. We should be giving out vaccines to all who want them, whenever available. Trying to adhere to rigid guidelines will only result in fewer people getting vaccines, resulting in the discarding of precious vaccines, and less protection for everyone. Of course we should be giving first priority to healthcare workers, and any other essential public service employees, such as policeman, fireman, etc. first, but when they're not around to receive shots, or refuse shots, then give them to anyone willing to take them.
