At least one more day, and.........

Got a chance to talk to the nephrologist (who looks young enough to be our son) today, and he seems to think the rapid rise in Creatinine is due to her free light chains, which have been steadily increasing, and depositing stuff in the kidneys. An earlier ultrasound ruled out any blockage.

I'm not so sure though, being convinced it is the elimination of the Dexamethasome, which Edie stopped about 3 weeks ago, that caused the problem. She hates the Dex, as it causes all sorts of unpleasant side effects, and wanted to stop taking it.

Still there doesn't seem to be much consensus as to how to proceed. Right now we're waiting for the [on call] oncologist (hers went on vacation this week), to decide if we are to continue with the Velcade/Doxil treatment, hopefully with the Dex added back in, and when and if they're going to put a shunt in her jugular, for the administering of chemo and/or plasmapheresis or dialysis.

I'm sure she would welcome visitors (I can only stay there so long at a time), or you can call her in her room at (562)461-5214. I'm also returning her cell phone to her shortly, so you can call her on that, provided you know the number.

I didn't grow up during the rise and fall of Hitler and Nazi Germany, so for me to claim it feels like those are the times we are living in now, must be taken with a grain of salt. My concerns reaffirmed today

When I was first diagnosed with MCL, I pretty much read just about everything I could get my hands on, I attended various conferences, and I talked to anyone who would listen. One of the most important lessons I learned, and which I've mentioned numerous times before was No one cares more about you than you. But in addition to that, I learned to fear the drug Doxorubicin , AKA Adriamycin, Doxil, Hydroxydoxorubicin, or more affectionately the Red Devil. Besides being a deadly chemical, as is the case with most chemotherapy drugs, it is one of the few chemotherapy drugs known to cause permanent heart damage. I even heard Dr. Sandra Horning , a noted Stanford lymphoma specialist, state at the first lymphoma conference I attended in LA, there was no evidence Doxorubicin provided any added benefit to chemotherapy protocols. Stop the stupidity!

Rural medical center (in Georgia) suspended from vaccination program after inoculating school district staff. Give me a break! Trying to get kids back to school, while protecting teachers, bus drivers and other staff, is exactly what school districts should be doing. If they have vaccines, give them out. We should be giving out vaccines to all who want them, whenever available. Trying to adhere to rigid guidelines will only result in fewer people getting vaccines, resulting in the discarding of precious vaccines, and less protection for everyone. Of course we should be giving first priority to healthcare workers, and any other essential public service employees, such as policeman, fireman, etc. first, but when they're not around to receive shots, or refuse shots, then give them to anyone willing to take them.
