It's almost one full year!

It was about this time last year when I registered my domain name, and I wrote my first post on December 5, 2005, and finally a family member, on my wifes side who we had not told about our health problems, managed to find out on their own.

You (at least I did) would think, since every email I send out has the URL for my blog, plus all the emails that my wife and I send to friends and relatives is suffixed with @livingwithmcl.com, it wouldn't have taken almost a full year for someone to finally be curious enough to investigate. But it did!

Yesterday, Edie received a call from her nephew, who lives in the valley, to inform us that his sister (Edie's neice), who also lives in the valley, discovered my blog. It came as quite a surprise to them. It should also make for an interesting Thanksgiving dinner, when we go over there Thursday evening.

So what is it that made her check that domain name? If it was curiosity, I would have thought she would have discovered it long ago. I always check domain names of friends to see if there is a website attached. Mostly there isn't any, but that doesn't discourage me from still checking every time I come across a new one.

But why is it that most other people don't bother? Have we just gotten so jaded by the huge number of emails, that we don't want to take the time or we just don't feel there is any value in checking? Or have we lost our adventurous nature, and no longer want to discover new things?

Who knows, but maybe this is just a sign of things to come!

Wow, it doesn't seem like it's been a year already.

And I for one have not yet lost my sense of adventure. I read everything, which is why I'm behind at work. :-)

Sometimes I don't even remember where I started when I start clicking links.

Maybe they are not big readers and just skim through the mail. Who knows. I will never understand people.

Is this the same nephew who use to leave himself notes on the mirror? Some kind of Amway cult, as I recall?

No! We hardly see them any more. Not even sure if they have access to the internet. :)

This is the other nephew. Sister to the one who couldn't wait for me to give them a turkey a number of years ago. If you can remember that far back.

What really surprises me so much, is that I have been able to come up with things to write about for an entire year.

Oh I remember that one.

And writing is catchy. Next thing you know you'll be reading books!

And writing is cathartic. Just think if you didn't have this outlet. All these thoughts would Uncle Fester up in your mind and not help your body at all.

It's a solitariy experience and yet we can share at the same time, unlike talking where we can't edit ourselves. :-)

Speaking of edits, how come you don't have a preview button before I send my stuff? Or am I just not looking hard enough?

No, I'm definately not the Amway nephew. I'm the cool likeable nephew. I'm not sure what is meant by "Sister to the one who couldn’t wait for me to give them a turkey a number of years ago".

I am the nephew that used to be Marc's diving buddy when he was still into scuba diving.

The reason I haven't read the blog is quite simple. I have two kids that keep me busy being a baseball coach and Indian Guides Chief. I barely have time to check my own email.

I have known about the blog, but when I was here before it was filled with Biking Club information and I am not very interested in Biking. I assumed it had not changed.

I know now though, huh!

History IS repeating itself

I didn't grow up during the rise and fall of Hitler and Nazi Germany, so for me to claim it feels like those are the times we are living in now, must be taken with a grain of salt. But I have seen enough movies, and read enough history to know, if the times we're living in now are not akin to the rise of a Nazism and Facism in Europe in the 1930's and 1940's, then we're not far off. Open letter to all Democrats

Stop the nonsense! Continuing to go after Trump, without any hope of getting a conviction, does nothing more than provide Republicans with an obstructionist dialogue (now that they have come up with the unconstitutional talking point) in addition to giving Trump much needed publicity, when we should be ignoring him. It's the pure definition of insanity, doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result! Instead Democrats need to be laser focused on what is important to all Americans, i.e. healthcare, Social Security and Medicare, infrastructure reform, the Covid-19 vaccine rollout, to name just a few. And when you do talk about Trump, simply steer the conversation as to how the Trump administration botched everything, how Trump is responsible for the deaths of 400,000+ Americans, due to his inaction and the down playing of the pandemic, plus the deaths of 2 Capitol policeman during the insurrection Trump provoked and incited on January 6, 2021.
