A little over one month into 2006, and so far things are starting out pretty good.
I'm gradually recovering from my accident, and starting to get back into shape. I'm finally able to swing a golf club to a point that I'm going to play in my first tournament this weekend, at a local course. This is actually a warm up round for another tournament I'm playing in at the Southern California Golf Assoc (SCGA) member course in Temecula on 2/18.
My oncologist suggested that Rituxan only would be an acceptable treatment plan initially for my MCL. Of course he is moving to Texas soon, so I'm hoping my new oncologist will be of the same opinion.
And after a 26 year drought, the Pittsburgh (the city where I was born and raised) Steelers won the Super Bowl yesterday. Unless you're a Steeler or Seahawks fan, I'm sure the game wasn't overly exciting, but at least it was close for most of the game, which is lot more than can be said for previous games. And I certainly enjoyed the game
And finally I achieved a major milestone in my life. I cooked for Super Bowl Sunday. I managed to make a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, all by myself. My wife did help a little, but only in putting the rub on the chicken. I even cleaned up after myself.
To some, that may not seem like much of an accomplishment, but if you know me, you know it is impressive. And what was even more satisfying is everybody, at the Super Bowl party enjoyed the gumbo. At least that's what everybody claimed, and I choose to believe them, and so far no one has gotten sick yet! :)
The only downside to this year, is I am not having much success accomplishing my new years resolution of losing 15 lbs. I'm still working on it though, and will report on my success in another month or so, I hope!

I gained 10 lbs during my first week of treatment...YIKES! And I had put on a cushion in anticipation of losing during treatment. But, good news, I took off all 10 in the week since. Whew, guess it was the steroids. My first round has gone fantastically well, far beyond my expectations. So, we can both celebrate a good beginning to 2006!
